James Liu is a physics, mathematics, and computer science student at Vanderbilt University, where he is a Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholar.

He previously worked on high energy physics simulation — both theory and experiment — and on machine learning methods to improve it, and interned at Flexcompute, where he built a graph neural network surrogate for automotive CFD. His interests center on applied machine learning for the sciences.

Outside of physics, he enjoys rock climbing, jazz piano, and philosophy.
